The Melbourne Cup horses are ready to race, but who is likely to realistically win?
Melbourne Cup Horses
Our Ivanhowe. Jockey: Dwayne Dunn. Handicap: 57kg
Our Ivanhowe has already won a Group One race in Australia, making him a strong contendor. However, competing against Hartnell may prove too big a task.
Curren Mirotic. Jockey: Tommy Berry. Handicap: 56.5kg
This horse has just beated Japan’s Tenno Sho in a 2 mile race earlier this year. With this effort along, he is a likely winner for the Cup. Yet barrier draw 18 and a bunch of bandages on his legs isn’t such a good sign.
Bondi Beach. Jockey: Ryan Moore. Handicap: 56kg
The combined trio of Aidan O’Brien, Lloyd Williams, and Ryan Moore working on this horse sets him in good esteem for a win. For a young horse though, the 2 mile track is going to be tough.
Exospheric. Jockey: Damien Oliver. Handicap: 56kg
The name Damien Oliver is famous in Melbourne Cup racing history for a reason. Plus, coming third in this year’s Caulfield Cup is a good sign. Nonetheless, the weight is a big number and will have an impact.
Hartnell. Jockey: James McDonald. Handicap: 56kg
Without a doubt, he is the favourite to win. He’s beaten almost every horse of track this year, except for the super mare Winx. However, he even took out Caulfield Cup winner Jameka. Hartnell is certainly looking good, but is he too tired after the Cox Plate?
