An Elusive Melbourne Cup for Godolphin?

Godolphin and the stables owner Sheikh Mohammed have never been in a better position to secure an elusive Melbourne Cup victory. The stable has five runners in the $6 million event with two of them at the top of the market.

They have the current pre-race favorite in the John O’Shea trained Hartnell for starters. They then also have the second favorite Oceanographer who is trained by Charlie Appleby. That same man also trains another Godolphin taking part in Qewy. The final two runners are Beautiful Romance and Secret Number who are trained by Saeed bin Suroor.

20 Years Without Godolphin Melbourne Cup Win

Sheikh Mohammed has been trying to win the Melbourne Cup for 20 years and will be confident that this year is his. However, in that time he has only managed to have three runner ups and a single third placed result. With a large representation and the two favorites, he will never be more confident of breaking his duck.

While Hartnell is the favourite, its seems that Oceanographer is the one getting most attention from the punters right now. Appleby has been getting him ready for his third race in two weeks – something that does not happen over in Europe. Appleby said:

“He ate up last night so that’s first and foremost,”

“He had a jog around this morning.”

“A lot of people weren’t expecting to see him out this morning but we like to keep them on the move.”

“So his usual rider jogged him around and he was having a buck and a kick coming off the track and then went back to the sandpit and had a roll.”

“So he looks in good order. At the moment it’s all systems go.”
